Hot Weather & Humidity Policy

At Paws On Sea Pet Services, your dog’s safety and wellbeing always comes first.

During warmer weather, walks and visits may be adjusted in line with current temperatures, humidity levels, pavement temperatures, and your dog’s individual needs.

Temperature Guidelines

18–20°C
Walks may be shortened, moved to shaded areas where possible, or quieter sniff-based enrichment walks.
Extra water breaks will be provided.

20–21°C
Walks may be reduced further or swapped for shorter toilet breaks, garden visits or indoor companionship sessions where appropriate.

22°C+
For safety reasons, walks will be replaced with 15-minute welfare drop-ins to keep dogs safe during extreme heat.
Visits may include garden time, toilet breaks, water refreshes, indoor play, and plenty of fuss while keeping cool.

Additional Safety Measures

  • Walks may be moved to earlier morning where possible
  • Pavement temperatures will always be checked before walks
  • Dogs will have access to fresh water throughout visits
  • High-risk dogs (flat-faced breeds, elderly dogs, puppies, overweight dogs, thick-coated breeds, or dogs with medical conditions) may have walks adjusted at lower temperatures.

Humidity & Extreme Weather

Temperature is not the only factor considered when assessing whether it is safe to walk dogs. High humidity can significantly increase the risk of overheating, as dogs rely mainly on panting to regulate their body temperature.

In high humidity, panting becomes far less effective, meaning dogs can overheat much more quickly — even during early morning walks or at lower temperatures.

For this reason, walks may also be shortened, adjusted, or cancelled due to:

  • High humidity levels
  • Lack of shade
  • Hot pavement temperatures
  • Extreme weather warnings

Where walks are deemed unsafe, alternative drop-in visits will be provided instead.

Important

Every dog tolerates heat differently, and decisions will always be made with your dog’s safety in mind. If temperatures become unsafe, owners will always be informed as soon as possible regarding any changes to services.

Thank you for understanding and helping keep your pups safe during hot weather 🐶☀️
